Young Author!

Emma's teacher this year really encouraged her to enter the school district's "Voices" Writing Contest. She is always complimenting her on her writing skills and her own expression. Emma was a little reluctant at first, just because it seemed like extra work, but there is no way she could turn down her teacher's amazing praise. She ended up submitting a short story titled "The Great Adventure" about two fairies and their jello-squirting dragon who set off on an adventure to find ingredients for a new batch of pixie dust. It took her a day to write and a day to edit and type up. And then she waited.
The contest only has two categories of winners, first place and honorable mention. First place winners get their entries published, and all the winners receive a certificate, book and ribbon.
Emma was beyond ecstatic when she found out that she had won Honorable Mention! It was a huge honor as she was competing among hundreds of entries. We are so proud of her!!!

After the award assembly we took her out for ice cream at Sonic to celebrate. She is already coming up with ideas for her submission next year. Way to go Emma!
